Panel 1

A wide shot shows Maggie, Sizemore, and Wanda standing behind a table in the background as Parson stands in the middle of the room addressing them.[edit]

Parson Gotti: You've done your best, guys.

I'm not a caster; I'll have to stay and fight it out.

Prolly die.

I mean I doubt anyone would take my surrender offer now.

But you guys have a way out. And I want you to use it.
[edit]

Panel 2

Parson stands with a sad look on his face. In the background behind him, a hobgobwin and another unit stand in the corridor outside the doorway.[edit]
(There is no text in this panel.) [edit]

Panel 3

Sizemore curls his lip in a scowl.[edit]

Sizemore Rockwell: So, are you explicitly ordering us into the Magic Kingdom?

Warlord?
[edit]

Panel 4

Wanda cocks an eyebrow as she offers her answer to the question.[edit]

Parson Gotti: Um, no.

Uh, I mean...

Wanda Firebaugh: He cannot.

Parson Gotti: ...

Whaddya mean?
[edit]

Panel 5

A closeup on Parson's face as he responds.[edit]

Wanda Firebaugh: Duty.

You do not... believe the f-hight is lost.

Parson Gotti: No... I've done the numbers.
[edit]

Panel 6

A scene viewed from above shows a group of units marching past half-fallen walls. The presence of a cloth golem indicates that the forces are Coalition units.[edit]

Parson Gotti: I think I can officially call this fight hopeless.

Maggie: Lord...
[edit]

Panel 7

A closeup of Maggie as she joins the conversation.[edit]
Maggie: She means if you have some tactic or gambit in mind which may yet work, the summon spell might require you to at least attempt it. [edit]

Panel 8

The frame shows Parson's left side from the waist up. His head is bowed, and his hand rests on his sword hilt.[edit]
Parson Gotti: Oh. [edit]

Panel 9

Parson's face is seen in profile as he addresses Maggie. He looks troubled.[edit]

Parson Gotti: That, um, game I was developing at home...

It had rules.

But it couldn't be won within the rules.

I wanted a game where the players had to surprise the GM with lateral thinking.
[edit]

Panel 10

Parson shrugs as he turns away from the table. Maggie, Sizemore, and Wanda continue to stand behind the table, staring at him intently.[edit]

Parson Gotti: So I was essentially goinna cheat them.

Undermine everything they tried.

Until they found a clever enough way to cheat me.

To break my rules, and win.
[edit]

Panel 11

A close view of Parson's face, seen in profile as he bows his head and closes his eyes.[edit]
(There is no text in this panel.) [edit]

Panel 12

A closer view of Maggie, Sizemore, and Wanda standing behind the table, with only Parson's arm visible in panel as he begins giving them their new orders. Maggie looks a bit surprised, Sizemore looks downright shocked, and Wanda stands impassively with her arms folded.[edit]

Parson Gotti: Thinkamancer.

Maggie: Lord?

Parson Gotti: Form a link-up with the Croakamancer... and the Dirtamancer.[1]
[edit]

Panel 13

Parson stares ahead with a determined expression.[edit]
Parson Gotti: I want you to try and uncroak the volcano. [edit]

[edit] Notes

  1. ^ Parson is impersonally referring to the casters by type, probably to remind himself that interacting with linked casters as individuals is dangerous, and perhaps also to distance himself from the order he is giving.
