Withdrawing is a tactical option taken after combat has been engaged in which the attacking force pulls out of the hex or out of reach of the opposition's weapons to end the fighting. Defending Units cannot leave the hex, so can only withdraw by moving to a location in the hex the attacking force cannot, which would usually require a movement type that the attacker does not possess.
Warlords do not gain experience for a battle from which they withdraw.

Withdrawl is probably not a common action, since Ansom did not consider it a possible event explaining the victories in the Siege train, although Vinny did.
