Okay, there's Outer Walls, space, then Garrison Walls, Courtyard, Tower. What's the space between the two sets of walls called? It would seem that would be the city proper, but it's not officially a 'zone' as far as I can tell. Does it count as Outer Walls or it also Courtyard or what? CIHN Aug 20 2009

[edit] Capital Cities

It's proposed canon that a Capital City can only be built on a Capital site, but I didn't see anything in the canon to suggest this restriction, or even the concept of a "Capital site". I would expect that the Ruler could choose any city as his Capital. Is there something wrong with that?

The claim that a destroyed Capital can be claimed and made a city again seems true of any city. From the Gobwin Knob example, I presumably a destroyed Capital, and the city resulting from the ruins when claimed, are still the side's Capital. Is there a way for a side to change its Capital?

As it stands, I imagine there may be capital sites out in the wilderness, just waiting for some non-capital side to build on them. Of course, the ruler might prefer not to have a capital, due to the consequences of losing the capital.–Dan Hoeytalk 05:14, 5 December 2009 (UTC)

You know, I'm not completely sure what the deal with capital sites is. I distinctly remember TBFGK saying that capital cities can only be built on captial sites, but then again, I also remember reading that a Barbarian Warlord could take over a city and start a side. As in, a Barbarian could take over any city and it would become their capital... Once again, I'll look into it after I get me some sleep. Miment 11:12, 5 December 2009 (UTC)
Right, well, I just finished searching through all the canon material, and I never once saw anywhere that said anything about Capital Sites. (Execpt in reference to the location of Faq.)I also read through the Word_of_the_Titans and didn't find anything. "Capital Site" proposed canon is getting demoted to Speculation. [edit] Cleaning up the Intro

The whole introductory spiel on cities, the aim of which is presumably to get across quickly what cities are, and what the basic components of them are, comes across at the time of this writing, as an argument about the relation of city level and defensive strength. The canon is that level influences defensive strength, and NOT the reverse. Can the repetitiveness be stripped out? It is embarrassing. I have ideas on undertaking this myself. Took the liberty of moving your comment to a new section, as it got put in a weird place. (New stuff should go either at the beginning or the end, not somewhere in the middle as it will get overlooked that way.) I agree that there's a lot of repetition and contradiction in there - the basic info (from that paragraph) is:

  • cities can be level 1 through 5
  • higher level cities have stronger defenses (though terrain plays a part as well)
  • cities can be upgraded or changed by spending Schmuckers
  • damage can cause a city to lose levels

The rest is unnecessary and confusing. If you want to do this yourself, I won't object; give it a few days and see if anyone else does, and if not go ahead. Sorator 01:55, 3 May 2013 (EDT)
