Hippiemancy is one of the eight major classes of magic in Erfworld. It is the major class defined by the Life and Matter elements together. According to Duncan Scone, Hippiemancy (among other things) concerned with relationships: "detecting and altering the forces of opposition and attraction which bind people or units."book-2-–-text-updates-011 External.png

Flower Power can be used to "quiet" a conflict and prevent units from engaging in combat. For example, the Florist Olive Branch could play music that prevented all combat in a hex, making units unable to swing their weapons with any force or cause injury.IPTSF Text 12

Signamancy is used to make magically binding contracts between sides (and sometimes between individual units). These contracts can cause automatic transfer of Shmuckers under certain conditions, or make it difficult for units to say or do certain things. Natural Signamancy also relates to how a unit's outward appearance reflects their personality and attributes.

Date-a-mancy can be used to predict how well two units will interact (in combat, in friendship, or in romance). An example is a Magic Item in the possession of Duncan Scone, which gives its wearer the ability limited ability to predict which of two units would win in a one-on-one combat engagement.

The study of Hippiemancy seems to have effects similar to those of marijuana in the Real World, including skewed time perception, commonly called "flaking", and unusual appetite.Erf-b1-p011Same-site.PNG Real World hippie culture is known for its liberal consumption of marijuana.

A practitioner of Hippiemancy is called a Hippiemancer.

Hippiemancy is the magic of relationships: detecting and altering the forces of opposition and attraction which bind people or units. With their confluence of Life and Matter and their absence of Motion Classes, it may be that within Hippiemancy Flower Power (Erf) might influence the environment/nature (space), Signamancy (Fate) might influence perspective/insight (vision), and Date-a-mancy (Numbers) might influence synchronicity (time in meaningful events, or put another way, the inverse of meaningful events in time).

Janis may have "quieted" Jeftichew in the Portal Park bypass tunnel - she describes what she has done as "basic Flower Power" and it renders him "unable to engage this turn"

[edit] Notable Hippiemancers

Janis is a Grand Abbie of Hippiemancy. She has claimed that Parson Gotti is also a Hippiemancer; however, that statement may have been a ploy to defuse the situation when Parson arrived in the Magic Kingdom via portal (something that should be impossible for a non-caster), though she said it as she was dismissing Parson's suggestion that he was a Mathamancer or a Luckamancer.
