Webcomic list

Mind if we put this first?

Webcomic list

Postby zeekgenateer » Sun May 03, 2009 12:49 am

Since no one's done this one yet, I'll give it a go.

Dr. McNinja - Coolest world saving doctor ever, if only he got the time to cure cancer.

Schlock Mercenary - Comic that's been a daily update for 3000+ days, now that's dedication. Also very funny stuff (found a plug for it in erfworld here)

Goats - Really random stuff but always hilarious.

8-Bit Theater - Final Fantasy sprites, with group issues.

Questionable content - Crazy people with issues, also indie rockers.

Wondermark - Old fashioned pictures and adverts turn to comics.

Order of the Stick - Ummmm. Duhhhh.

XKCD - Science, it works!

It's not all of them, it's not all of them that I know, but these are the ones I like best.

I agree with zeekgenateer, Questionable Content, XKCD, and OOTS are awesome.
To my list I would add the following:
Phoenix Epoch http://mcgibs.iseenothing.com/phoenix-pitch A bit cliché but good art and interesting characters (was dead for a will but now restarted)

Immortal Enemies http://www.ultinomicon.com/ImmortalEnemies/ a Warhammer 40k comic which has a great story (author slowing down)

Penny-Arcadehttp://www.penny-Arcade.com ...

Darths&Droids http://www.darthsanddroids.net/ Really good comic using images for star wars movies (imitation of DM of the Ring but just a good)

Pictures for Sad Children http://www.picturesforsadchildren.com

Gone with The Blastwave (updated rarely, but the artwork is worth it!)

Evil Inc. (You thought that super villains were bad? Now face the wrath of their billing department!)

Buck Godot, Zap Gun for Hire Another great one from Foglio

Looking for Group Necromancers are none too subtle and short of attention...

http://www.smbc-comics.com/ Updated nearly daily, usually funny.

http://keychain.patternspider.net/ Keychain of Creation. Sort of like OotS, but with Exalted.

http://www.lastblood.net/ Last Blood. The Zombie Apocalypse happens. Vampires show up to defend the last humans left alive.

http://www.badkarmaproductions.com/jc/ Jesus Christ: In The Name Of The Gun. Jesus, with the help of a time-traveling Ernest Hemingway, fights Hitler.

http://www.nuklearpower.com/warbot/ Warbot In Accounting. Written by Brian Clevinger, the 8Bit Theater guy. Also hosted on nuklearpower.com.

http://www.qwantz.com/ Dinosaur Comics. The same panels, over and over and over again. The text changes. Updated frequently.

http://www.vgcats.com/ VG Cats. Updated pretty much never. If it weren't so funny, I'd have given up long ago.

http://www.vgcats.com/super/ Super Effective. From the same guy as VG Cats. Updated slightly more often. Not as funny.

http://www.amazingsuperpowers.com/ Amazing Super Powers. Updated once or twice a week, usually. Pretty funny most of the time.

http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/ps238/comics/index.php PS 238. The superhero elementary school.

http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/gamesp ... /index.php Nodwick. From the same guy as PS 238.

http://nodwick.humor.gamespy.com/ffn/index.php Full Frontal Nerdity. Again, same guy.

http://www.crispygamer.com/comics/backward/ Same dude again. Just found this one today. No promises as to quality.

http://www.snowflakescomic.com/ From the SMBC guy. Kid-friendly.

http://www.gunnerkrigg.com/index2.php Gunnerkrigg Court. Very entertaining, great art.

http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/ ... unctuation Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw (Australian. Has a sweet hat.) talks really fast about a game every week. Don't watch at work unless your job is cool with a lot of language.

I also second, third, or whatever number we're on many of the suggestions above. Except for CAD. That place is a hole.

http://www.little-gamers.com/ - cute, and hilarious

http://www.megatokyo.com/ - only if you like manga-like style, but brilliant non-the less

http://www.applegeeks.com/ - It takes so LOOOOONG to load, but worth it

http://www.seraph-inn.com/ - 3 separate comics. one is finished, the other two are still running, very nice art, and a good plot in all of them

http://www.lfgcomic.com/ - done by the same artists as the above-mentioned Leas I Could Do. Read it, it is not so game-based as you might think.

You already wrote all the rest I like and read, but, some of them like Penny Arcade! is not for everyone, you have the be in the computer/gaming world for the last 15 years or so to catch the meaning of most of the comics. If you are not a gamer, then you might think it boring as hell, and drop it. And Cyanide&Happiness is also hard to digest at some times, I personally find it hilarious, but some of my friends despise it.

Anyway, to each his own, good thing there is a lot to choose from x]

So many awesome comics already listed... have a few more!

Basic Instructions Because everyone needs advice on how to get through life.

SinFest A pimp poet, the Chinese Dragon and God fistfight in Heaven, random kitty and pup, how can you loose?

The Warehouse More puns then you can shake a stick at.

Oh My Gods! A bunch of neopagans live in one house, and mock each other and their neighbors.

Simulated Comic Product Dark and twisted glimpses of humanity. This of course leads to hilarity.

In order, that I read religiously:
Order of the Stick -- Rich's crankiness aside, this is the tops right now.
xkcd -- RM's stick figures threaten to be the alpha and omega of webcomix. They are certainly the best gateway drug.
Goats -- Insanity for almost as long as Sluggy. Chronicling the end of the mulitiverse. And a fish that lives in beer.
Sluggy Freelance -- One of the longest running webcomix and of those that old (with a continual story line) my favorite. Warning, may branch off into seemingly tangential storylines for 6 months or more.
Erfworld -- Rob and Jamie do a nearly perfect job.
Questionable Content -- Indie comix and silliness, shaken up with the Daft Punk 9000.
Least I Could Do -- Every guy knows or is or wants to be Rayne.
PartiallyClips -- Rob's older comic. Like a mix of Dinosaur Comics and Married to the Sea -- or maybe they got their ideas from Rob. . .
Penny Arcade -- Always good, always snarky -- oh and they've done the most to branch out of webcomix into the real world -- PAX anyone?
Fragile Gravity -- Apparently not many people read this wonderful comic. There's a stoat. And penguins. Waark.
pictures for sad children -- Long John's Silvers is an excellent place for the whole family!
Hark! A Vagrant -- Did you do well enough in History class to think these are funny?
nataliedee --The last four are all from Drew and Natalie Dee. Sort of the Far Sides of the pixel world.
Married to the Sea
Toothpaste for Dinner
SuperPoop

I've jumped onto the webcomic bandwagon too. And enjoy it more and more. These are the ones I read, apart from this one:

Order of the Stick - http://www.giantitp.com - Well, no explanations necessary.

No Need For Bushido - http://www.noneedforbushido.com - A very funny feudal Japan comic (with samurai and ninjas)

Wulffmorgenthaler - http://www.wulffmorgenthaler.com - Zany Gary Larsonesque single panel humor. Recommendable.

Goblins - http://www.goblinscomic.com - Excellent fantasy story from the perspective of the goblins.

Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal- http://www.smbc-comics.com - Pretty funny daily strips.

Ctr+Alt+Del - http://www.ctrlaltdel-online.com - Indispensable to any gamer worth his salt.

Damnation, all of mine are already mentioned- CAD, 8Bit, OOtS, ErfWorld (too obvious?), XKCD and Sinfest. Otherwise, I got nothing. Except http://www.duelinganalogs.com/, which only manages to be funny 30% of the time.

My brother loves SMBC, and I was never into Penny Arcade. Read all of Dr. McNinja, thoroughly enjoyed it, then stopped reading until about three months ago. Having comics to look forward to reading on an excellent comic is great.

One thing I want to be sure of though- Is Tim Absath big enough of an arsebandit to deserve the sheer hatred he inspires? I only ask because despite his apparent inability to deal with criticism, I refuse to believe that anyone who is both so universally loved and hated can be as good (or bad) as the extremes would protest.
If someone can't be that good he surely can't be that bad either?
I had written out a meandering praise-filled signature for Erfworld, but noticed the character limit.
Short version:
I'm now a tool.
I was drunk setting it up.

I regret nothing. Great comic. OOtS + Erfworld = What the internet was made for.

http://yafgc.shipsinker.com : Yet Another Fantasy Gamer Comic. Very entertaining.
http://www.rmcomics.com : Gods of Arr-Kelaan. About Mortals discovering they are gods in an alternate universe. Hefty Archive.
http://antiheroescomic.com/comic : More bad guy comics, but again enjoyable.
