I think the point was that casters lose their 'caster' status if they are uncroaked. She would just be 1 more unit of basic infantry.

He did ask if it was possible to uncroak, suggesting that he wanted to at least try.

Yes. Decrypting turns into a different and altogether frightening temptation if it seems like a way to get lost friends back. I wonder if there is a monkey's paw clause hidden somewhere in it...
