Looking for readers

Postby effataigus » Mon Jun 17, 2013 11:20 am

Yo peeps.

I'm in the middle of a 3rd round of editing a fantasy novel that I wrote for the fun of it. It is a couple of weeks from the point where it probably won't get any better without outside input. Typically I would now be coming upon the "friends and family" stage of editing, but, as a first time novelist, I'm mostly interested in knowing whether the book is entertaining to anyone besides myself. You guys are kinda the perfect demographic for this. You are into the genre, I know many of you well enough to respect your opinions, and I don't know any of you in real life so I can expose you to this weirdly personal endeavor without fear that - upon discovering what pathetic sociopathic self-aggrandizing schlock it is - you and everyone I love will never talk to me again.

So, anyone might be up for a read in about a month? The more feedback you would be willing to give, the better. I'm no stranger to peer review due to my job, so I've learned to take and appreciate harsh criticism... but all I'd ask from those that I send a draft to is to let me know how far you made it before you got bored and moved on.

The ideal would be to find someone in the same situation, so I could return the favor.

Best!

EDIT: woot! Post 900!

It is 125 k words at the moment, and I plan to add a ~3 k epilogue. From what I can tell, this translates to short-to-normal for a fantasy novel, and painfully long for a self-help book. Tapping out after two pages is legit though :D

I'll post a "back-cover" synopsis here when it is ready to go.

That doesn't seem too difficult. If you would like me to, I'd be happy to try and give it a go.

Well, no promises that I'll have time to read a 128k book, but I might be able to at least give it some sort of a glance to see how it reads. And who knows, maybe I'll really like it and read it all. No chance of you recording an audiobook of it so I can listen to it, is there? :P

Hahah, as fun as recording an audiobook would be, I doubt anyone would want to listen to my voice for that long. :D

Finished the Epilogue... with some other edits I'm up to 130k. Back cover synopsis coming soon!

I can give it a shot too. I can't guarantee I'll be able to finish, but I figure an attempt is better than nothing at all.

Ty folks... very close now. Work picked up, so the book stuff has slowed down... but it's still coming along.

Hi folks,

The book is ready as a .pdf file. PM me if you're interested in reading it and I haven't already sent you the link.

Here's the promised back-cover synopsis:

A shattered prince, a mysterious child, a desperate exile, a kidnapped noble, and a fugitive storyteller… five souls search for family, sanctuary, and purpose in the wake of a night of momentous and mysterious events. War looms on the horizon, and individual tales are woven together into the story of a fledgling nation struggling to keep an independence hard won by the heroism of generations past.

If you're wondering what took so long at the end, I made the mistake of printing it out, at which point a million errors jumped out at me.

Best to thee and thine,
-Eff
